What are the requirements to become a Stay Native Host?

To become a stay native host you must be

- 18+ Years old (or younger with parental consent and attendance)

- Be of Maori decent 

- Nz Citizen and Resident

- Offer a NATIVE or AUTHENTIC experience

- Have access to a Internet connection

How can i prepare to Host?

You will need to decide what it is you would like to offer for your Stay Native experience.

Your experience will showcase who you are as a host, think of where your talents lie, what are you good at? What do you enjoy? You don’t need to be flash , you just have to be YOU ! 

Think about how you can package up various activities to fill the day and complete your total Stay Native experience.

What is an Experience?

An experience is a single activity, workshop or culmination of activities or excursions that you will share with a guest.

As a host you will lead your guest through an authentic indigenous experience that they cannot easily access elsewhere. You will share your whenua, culture and insight into Te Ao Maori.

As a Stay native host you will always be mindful of Nga Matapono: Values we uphold

Which encompass Whanaungatanga, Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga.

Experiences can last anywhere from 1hr up until a full day, you can even choose to offer a nights accommodation and meals if you want.

How do I create my experience listing?

Sign Up

First, you will need to sign up as a host here 



Once you have signed up, you will need to activate your account, check your emails for the activation email and then click the link in the email to activate your account. 


Update your Profile 

Now you will need to update your Profile, to do this you click on your profile icon in the top right of the screen, then the drop down menu will appear, select profile.  In your profile you will need to update all relevant information about yourself, and ensure you upload a recent picture of yourself for your profile picture. 


Add your experience

Click on “Add new experience” in the top menu bar

Follow the prompts to create your listing, try to be creative and engaging with the content for your listing.  Make your title standout so you can entice people to click on your experience.  You will need to include as much information as possible to best inform your guest about your experience such as,

  1. Describe your location & accommodation in detail.
  2. Discuss potential risks or safety guidelines if applicable.
  3. Describe your experience in detail from start to finish, including what will be included in the experience and what guests will receive as part of the experience.
  4. You must indicate items that guests are required to bring or wear to your experience.
  5. Select the appropriate ages that can participate in your experience.

How much should i charge?

What should you charge?

Try to think what it will cost you in terms of providing equipment, food, petrol and of course your time, this is your business so don’t under estimate your worth. Be realistic with your pricing and do your research to see what other operators are charging.  

Choose your dates

Think about the dates you will be available and ensure you can commit to these dates.  Before a guests booking is confirmed a message will be sent to you with notification of their booking and the dates they have chosen, you will be required to check that these dates are still suitable for you to host , you will then either confirm, deny or offer alternative dates that are suitable to you both. You will have 24hrs to reply to your booking request before it expires. 

Adding Photo's and Video's

Images can say a thousand words, and its imperative that your listing has clear, sharp, beautiful vibrant images that will catch the attention of your guests.  If you don’t have a good camera, ask a friend or whanau member to borrow theirs to take some great pics !

If you want to enter multiple images you will need to press the ctrl key and multi-select from your images on your computer, or on a MAC press command and select the images.

Enter the link for YouTube video if you have one, and the video will also be displayed on the listing page.
